Bernina Express Day Trip by Train from Milan
Meet your guide at Milan Central Station, and relax on the train journey to Varenna, on the banks of Lake Como. You’ll stop to stretch your legs and soak up the lake views before the journey continues. The route passes through Italy’s Valtellina valley, a beautiful area that cuts through the mountains. After a stop in a typical winery or café, you’ll continue to Tirano for a quick lunch (own expense) before boarding the Bernina Express. Aboard the little red train, you’ll pass high into the hills, crossing bridges and viaducts along the way. The terrain here is rugged yet scenic, and the panoramic train windows lend themselves to sweeping views of the alps and lakes. Disembark at Ospizio Bernina (summer) or Diavolezza (winter). Continue by coach or minibus to the mountain town of St. Moritz for shopping and walking, then travel onward to Colico for your train back to Milan.
