Petra and Shobak from Eilat 2 days - Single, 3 Star Hotel
Petra is thousands of years old and was at one time inhabited by the Nabateans. They were a very creative and industrious people. The Nabateans created water cisterns, and sold the water to passing caravans, merchants, and travelers. After a big earthquake hit the region, the cisterns were damaged beyond repair, and the archaeologists believe that is why the Nabateans abandoned Petra. Petra has another name, the Rose Colored City, the mountains are rose colored, and as the day goes on the mountains change color into orange and red.
A lonely reminder of former Crusader glory is Shobak Castle, less than an hour north of Petra. Once called "Mont Real," Shobak dates from the same turbulent period as Karak. It is perched on the side of a mountain, with a grand sweep of fruit trees below. The
castle's exterior is impressive, with a foreboding gate and encircling triple wall. Rebuilt several times, its walls and towers, as seen today, date to the Islamic period, 13th century and later.It was strategically located on a hill on the plain of Edom, along the pilgrimage and caravan routes from Syria to Arabia. This allowed Baldwin to control the commerce of the area, as pilgrims and merchants needed permission to travel past it.
Day 1:
• We will pick you up from your hotel, and bring you to the border. After crossing the border, you will visit Aqaba for a short time (around 20 min) Then the adventure starts.
• We will drive to Petra which takes about 2 hours and start the wonderful day in Petra. Tour Petra.
• After 4-5 hours of walking and learning eat lunch in one of the restaurants. Check in to a 3 star hotel in Petra (there is an option for an upgrade)
Day 2:
• Breakfast at the hotel.
• We start our drive to the amazing Shobak city which includes the amazing Crusader castle .
• After a tour of 3 hours we will continue to the Arava border and finish our tour at the Border, we will pick you up from the border and get you back to your hotel in Eilat.
