Chaouen shore excursion from Tangier
Depart Tangier harbor/Hotel towards Cherchaouen, the blue pearl of Morocco. The driver takes about 2 ½ hours through the Riff Mountains, passing by small Berber villages and the most breathtaking landscape. Chefchaouen nestles in the hollow of the mountains. It’s famous by the blue lime-washed houses, busy squares, steep alleyways, and the best way to discover this holy town is to wander around it taking in the atmosphere. Steep narrow streets with white and indigo lime washed buildings, small squares, ornate fountains and houses with elaborately decorated doorways and red tile roofs make this a delightful town.
A powerful charm that you really can feel in the square; the Place Uta El-Hammam, the heart of the old town and the focal point on which all the streets of the medina converge. It’s lined with trees, and paved with stones and pebbles, and in a center stands four-sided fountain decorated with arches in the cobblestone medina.
The welcome and great hospitality provided by its inhabitants can be experienced during a visit to a traditional oil mill (there are more that 1500 of them) or a craftsman’s workshop. Over and above its weaving, Chechaouen is renowned for its basket-making and its pottery. Lunch at leisure in a local moroccan restaurant. After lunch, time at leisure for a break time in the old medina for shopping or Mint tea in a local café, before re-board the Vehicle and drive back to Tangier (Your Shore trip ends late in the afternoon in Tangier port)
