Portage Glacier Cruise a Self-Guided Tour
Your day starts with pickup from the downtown Anchorage visitor center, where you’ll hop on an air-conditioned coach to Portage Lake—a scenic drive, indeed. Once arrived at your destination, you’re free to explore on your own, though do ask your driver for recommendations. Many visitors will choose to nab a snack at the Portage Glacier Lodge and depart from there on the Portage Glacier Cruise (additional tickets required). Narrated by your captain, it’ll take you up to the face of Portage Glacier and along some spectacular glacial landscapes. After the cruise, choose to take a walk along the lakeshore or up to Byron Glacier—it’s just 20 minutes to the ice. Then it’s back on your shuttle with your small group, dropped back off in Anchorage.
