Calchaquí Valley, Cachi, Payogasta Tour from Salta

Salta 12 hours

After pickup at your hotel in Salta, start the 5- to 6-hour drive toward Cachi with an introduction to the area by your guide. Watch the stunning scenery of the Calchaquí Valley pass by the windows while you settle in to your comfortable seat aboard your car, van or minibus (depending on the group size). The duration of your drive will vary depending on the weather, the condition of the roads and any stops along the way. Heading south past El Carril and Chicoana through the Lerma Valley, stop at Puente Malcante (Malcante Bridge) to snap some photos. Your journey continues on Route 33 through two spectacular gorges, Quebrada de Escoipe and Quebrada de los Laureles, after which your guide stops at a lookout point. Hop out at Cuesta de Obispo (Bishop's Slope) for views of the Enchanted Valley's undulating corn fields and lush fruit trees. You'll reach Piedra de Molino (Millstone), a rocky outcropping and the highest point on the trip at 11,100 feet (3,384 meters) and a great spot for beautiful mountain views. Arrive in the village of Payogasta for a lunch break (own expense) before continuing to Cachi. Explore Cachi's historical village on your own; choose to visit the National Historic Monument or the Archaeological Museum, or simply stroll through the whitewashed adobe buildings. Meet up with your group for the 3- to 4-hour return trip to Salta, during which you pass through Los Cardones National Park. Cross the Recta del Tin Tin, a straight stretch of road believed to be created by the Incas. Your trip ends with drop-off at your hotel in Salta.
