Byron Bay Ballooning is a local family owned and operated business, formed with the intention of offering everyone the magnificent experience of flying in a hot air balloon over Australia's most beautiful landscape. Our chief pilot Thomas Dattler is the 2011 and 2012 Australian Ballooning Champion has been flying balloons over the Byron Bay area since 2005. Before that he was a flying instructor for aeroplanes. His team of highly qualified professional pilots and enthusiastic, friendly and helpful crew will ensure that this experience will be a safe and wonderful one from beginning to end. All our pilots hold a commercial pilot licence issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, which is considered of the highest standard worldwide. Our balloons are all purchased new from the manufacturer and feature the latest in safety design and quiet burner technology for your comfort during the flight. From the mountains to the sea the rainbow region will enchant you with its wonders. Before departure the pilot will give you a brief outline of current weather and the proposed launch site. You might be there in time to see the piball released a small helium filled balloon with a light attached to it that helps us to determine the upper air winds. Next we drive to our launch site, where the balloon is unpacked and prepared for inflation. It takes around twenty minutes to prepare the balloon for takeoff and once the pilot has completed his pre flight checks you are invited to climb into the basket.
