Private Berlin Third Reich and Nazi Bike Tour
Berlin became the capital of the Third Reich under the rule of Hitler and the Nazis. By the time the Second World War came to an end, over half of Berlin was completely demolished. This thought-provoking half-day tour will highlight this turbulent time in the city’s dark history.
If you are interested in learning more about the Third Reich and Nazi Berlin with the backdrop of so many iconic monuments and lasting memories, a private tour will offer you the most options to do so at your own pace. Our guides are friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely want you to see and understand the city and its history. We have crafted a route that includes all of the highlights necessary to best explain this time in Germany's history while staying safe.
This tour will kick off by discussing the legacy of Imperial Germany and how the events at the end of the First World War created the rift in ideology which allowed for Hitler and the Nazis to gain control. From here, your guide will go into further detail about how the legal structures of the time were manipulated by the Nazis in order to prevent discord and set up a defense against any opposing parties. Daily life under the Nazi regime progressed in such a way where it was considered idiotic to contest the fascist regime, and we will continue to explore this and other themes that led to the Second World War.
Some of the important sites that we’ll visit include the site of Hitler’s Bunker and Herman Goering’s Lufwaffe Ministry - some of the only remaining Nazi archetecture in Berlin. We will also be able to spot some of the damage left after the Soviet Red Army’s battle for Berlin. The military headquarters where the July 20th Plot to assassinate Hitler was launched are still standing, and we will stop here to highlight those who did resist the Nazis and point out their bravery amidst a seemingly all-powerful state. We will also stop to see all that remains of Hitler and Albert Speer’s strategy to reconstruct Berlin as “Germania,” the Nazi Empire’s Global Capital.
Berlin is home to several Holocaust and World War II Memorials which we will also include in the tour. As we explore these monuments and museums, your guide will go into detail about how Germany is addressing this dark chapter of their history. Finally, we will take time to explore the former Jewish Neighborhood and visit the New Synagogue.
Your guide will ensure that this trip is just as memorable as it is enlightening. He or she will be happy to take pictures for your group, answer questions, and help you organize the rest of your stay in Berlin. We like to include a break for refreshments mid-way through (cost not included) the tour which is the perfect opportunity to pick their brain.
Even though this tour can be heavy in nature, we have carefully planned the route so as to maximize the history in a short amount of time. You will still have plenty of daylight to explore other areas of Berlin after your tour comes to an end. And your guide will be pleased to point you in the right direction for a great restaurant, museum, or engaging activity to make the most out of your stay.
On a private tour, you and your group are completely in control of the pace. With our comfortabel city-cruiser style bikes, we know that you will be able to take in all of the beauty that Berlin has to offer. The themes discussed may be dark, but we take the safety component off of your hands so that you can simply listen, experience, and enjoy.
