Enjoy an Authentic Chilean Meal with a Local Family
Bio:
Ivania and Carlos enjoy cooking together and learned to cook traditional family recipes from their mothers. They often watch cooking shows on TV and re-create the dishes for their friends and family. Their friends and family often compliment them for their food and hospitality and think they would be wonderful hosts! They are very happy to share traditional Chilean flavors, so travelers can enjoy their diversity in food and culture. They feel the happiest when people leave their home with a full belly and a smile on their face; and they wish to share this happiness with travelers now!
“I really believe that cooking for someone is a way to give love and that makes me feel great.”
What to expect:
Market Visit:
After you meet Ivania and Carlos at their home, they will drive you to the La Vega Central market. It is Santiago's main market and they sell a wide variety of products here, principally fresh fruit and vegetables from the Chilean Central Valley. The market is bright, colorful and bustling with activity. Ivania and Carlos will teach you about the local ingredients and how they are used in Chilean cuisine and the history behind the country's diverse cooking. After you pick up few ingredients from the market, go back to Ivania and Carlo’s home to learn how to cook with them.
Cooking Experience:
Join Ivania and Carlos in their small kitchen for a hands-on cooking class. You learn to prepare 2-3 authentic homemade Chilean dishes that you will later share with Ivania and Carlos at their dining table. The cooking portion of the experience will last for 1-2 hours.
Meal:
Ivania and Carlos live in a warm and beautifully decorated home close to the famous Providencia neighborhood in downtown Santiago. Carlos is an architect and you can tell that by the beautiful detailing in the apartment! While you sip on your welcome drink, Ivania and Carlos will introduce you to their food and culture, and then later you will join them at the dining table for an authentic meal. Some of the dishes you may try are goat cheese, chili and olives with homemade sourdough bread, seaweed ceviche, risotto of mote (wheat) with goat cheese and meat and your meal will end on a sweet note with some caramel semolina.
Choose a starting time, either: 12:00pm or 7:00pm.
