Traditional Kerala Home Cooked Meal
Sherly used to live in a large joint family where special importance was given to traditional food and customs. This is when she learned to cook traditional Kerala food using family recipes passed down through generations. Sherly is the owner of travel company that she has been running for over two decades. Currently she lives alone but enjoys cooking for friends and family, who often compliment her on her cooking and entertaining skills!
What to expect:
Cooking Experience:
Join Sherly in the kitchen for a cooking demo where she will demonstrate how to make traditional dishes such as appam (rice pancake) and stew or moru curry (buttermilk mildly spiced and garnished) and thoran (vegetables). The cooking demonstration will last about an hour before you join Sherly at her dining table to enjoy a traditional Kerala meal.
Meal:
Sherly will welcome you into her beautiful home, located a 40 minute drive from Fort Kochi. Her home is inside a gated community and has a lush green lawn at the entrance. Sherly's home is decorated with touches of traditional Kerala and is impeccably clean. Sip on a freshly squeezed lime juice as you listen to Sherly narrate her food stories and tell you about the spices used in South Indian cooking. Later you will join her at the dining table to share a meal that may include dishes such as chicken cutlets, avial (mixed vegetables with coconut and yoghurt gravy), fish fry, prawn and green mango curry and rice. End your meal on a sweet note with a traditional dessert like payasam (milk and vermicelli pudding).
Choose a starting time, either: 11:00am or 5:00pm.
Note:
As for most Indian homes, please remove your footwear at the entrance of the home. Sherly can offer pick-up and drop-off from Fort Kochi hotels at an additional price, so please click on the transportation option if you'd like to include a hotel transfer.
