Hvannadalshnukur - Iceland's Highest Summit
Hiking Hvannadalshnukur is one of Iceland’s top adventures—and the country’s highest hike at 2,110 meters (6,900 feet).
The ascent of Hvannadalshnukur, Iceland’s highest peak, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Located on the northwestern rim of the Oraefajokull volcano, this hike offers unforgettable panoramic views over the rugged outlet glaciers of the Vatnajokull glacier and the vast sandy plains formed by the glacial rivers that flow from it.
No special technical skills are required to join this tour; however, it is both physically and mentally demanding. The hike is long and strenuous, so a good level of fitness is essential. To ensure safety and the best possible experience, we maintain a low client-to-guide ratio, usually 6 participants per guide. A minimum of two participants is required for the hike to proceed. For safety and flexibility, we recommend that you leave a few days open before and after your scheduled hike, in case the departure must be delayed or rescheduled due to weather conditions or insufficient group size.
