Bagnoregio & Orvieto Day Trip with Tuscany Wine Tasting & Lunch
Your day starts at Piazza del Popolo, where you board an air-conditioned coach for the drive north from Rome to Civita di Bagnoregio—a medieval hilltop village perched on a plateau of volcanic rock. Getting here independently is a challenge, with no direct public transit to the bridge entrance, so having transport sorted in advance saves considerable hassle. Cross the footbridge into the village and spend about two hours exploring its narrow streets, Etruscan caves, and enjoy panoramic views across the surrounding valleys. From there, the coach continues into Tuscany for a three-course lunch and tasting of five wines—among them a Brunello di Montalcino, one of Italy's most prized reds—at a farmhouse and vineyard in the Montepulciano area. The tour then heads to Orvieto for roughly two hours of free time. Built atop a sheer cliff of volcanic tufa, the town is home to a striking Gothic cathedral and a network of underground tunnels and caves beneath the streets. Finish the day back in Rome.
