Petra, Wadi Rum and Dead Sea 4 days

Petra 4 days

Itinerary Petra, Wadi Rum, and the Dead Sea 4 days

Petra has become famous in the past couple years for being one of the seven wonders of the world.  Petra was left out us over 2000 years ago by the Nabateans, and you can see how industrious they were, by touring Petra.  The Treasury is a very impressive facade carved into the side of a mountain, in intricate detail.   In the Treasury  is a large room that was used for sacrificing animals to their gods. Continue on to tour the rest of the facades, the tombs, the mourning houses, the amphitheater, and much more.

Wadi Rum is situated in a valley in the middle of the desert.  It is inhabited by the Bedouins, and has been for the past couple hundreds of years. The Wadi Rum desert is very beautiful, and the sandstone formations that seem to pop out of the sand are absolutely amazing.

Dead Sea was once a refuge for kings and nobles.  Up until today and going back thousands of years, people have come to soak in the waters of the Dead Sea, for its curing minerals that the water contains.

What you need to know:

  • You will be on the move a good deal, so pack as lightly as possible (try to stay around 10 kg /22lb). It is in your own interest as you are expected to carry your own luggage.
  • Suitcases are definitely not recommended for our trips! It is also important that your bags can be locked, as on some buses it may be necessary to store your luggage separately from the group.
  • The smaller your bag is the better, for when it comes to travelling its usually only the smaller bags that will fit into the storage area
  • So to get maximum comfort, pack small and light! You will also need a day pack/bag to carry water and a camera. ‚Ķ etc., for day walks and day trips.
  • Temperatures in Jordan can be hot and with little rain. This can become extreme towards and during the summer months of May to August.
  • In the months of November to March it can be very cool at night particularly in the desert where night temperatures can drop to 5C or less. Even in the hot months out in the desert it can get cold at night.
  • Jordan is an Islamic nation and tends to be quite conservative so you should dress accordingly.
  • As a general guideline, shoulders and knees should be covered at all times.
  • The wearing of shorts is not allowed away from the beach or pool as it will restrict your entry into buildings of a religious nature and family homes.
  • A light water and windproof jacket is useful and a hat essential. From mid-November to late February a sleeping bag is essential for your nights in the desert. At other times a sleeping sheet will suffice.
  • Loose, lightweight, long clothing is both respectful and cool in the predominantly hot climate.
